How to Set Up Double Opt-In

Popup does not offer a built-in double opt-in feature. Instead, double opt-in is handled through your connected CRM or email service provider (ESP). The confirmation email is sent by your CRM, not by Popup.

Option A: MailChimp

If you use MailChimp as your integration:

  1. Open your widget in the editor
  2. Go to the Integrations tab
  3. In the MailChimp integration settings, enable "Request double opt-in confirmation from subscribers"
  4. Also verify that double opt-in is enabled in your MailChimp account settings (Audience > Settings > Opt-in settings)

When a visitor submits the form, MailChimp sends a confirmation email. The subscriber is only added to your list after they click the confirmation link.

Option B: Platformly

If you use Platformly as your integration:

  1. In Platformly, create two tags: single_optin and double_optin
  2. In your Popup widget's integration settings, configure the widget to apply the single_optin tag on submission
  3. In Platformly, set up an automation triggered by the single_optin tag:
  • Send a confirmation email with a confirmation link
  • When the link is clicked, apply the double_optin tag and remove single_optin

See Platformly Integration for detailed setup instructions.

Other CRMs

The same pattern applies to any CRM or ESP that supports automation workflows:

  1. Configure Popup to send subscriber data to your CRM on form submission
  2. Set up an automation in your CRM to send a confirmation email
  3. Only add the subscriber to your active list after confirmation
