Viewing Conversions in Google Analytics (GA4)

Track Popup widget conversions as events in Google Analytics 4 (GA4). This lets you see which widgets drive the most conversions and how they fit into your overall site analytics.

Setup Steps

1. Set Up a GA4 Account

If you do not already have one, create a Google Analytics 4 property at analytics.google.com.

2. Install Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Add the Google Tag Manager code snippet to your site. GTM is the recommended way to manage your GA4 tracking code.

3. Add Your GA4 Analytics Code

Inside Google Tag Manager, create a GA4 Configuration tag with your Measurement ID (starts with G-). Set it to fire on All Pages.

4. Enable Universal Analytics Events

In your GA4 property, confirm that events are being received. GA4 automatically collects page_view events once the tag is firing. Custom events from Popup will appear alongside these.

5. Create a Widget with the Fire Google Event Action

  1. Open your widget in the Popup editor.
  2. Select the Submit button (or any clickable element).
  3. In the On Submit Actions panel, add the action Fire Google Event.

6. Configure the Event

Set the event parameters:

  • Event Category -- A label for the group (e.g. popup).
  • Event Action -- What happened (e.g. submit, click).
  • Event Label -- A descriptor for the specific widget (e.g. homepage_exit_popup).

Click the bracket icon { } to use dynamic values from the form submission.

7. Save and Activate

Save your widget and make sure it is active. GA4 will begin receiving events the next time a visitor triggers the action.

Viewing Conversion Data

  • Realtime report -- For immediate verification, go to GA4 > Reports > Realtime. Submit a test conversion and watch for your event to appear within seconds.
  • Standard reports -- Event data typically takes up to 24 hours to appear in GA4's standard reports under Reports > Engagement > Events.
