Robot — Plan Your Button-Based Chatbot

A button-based chatbot guides visitors through a structured conversation using clickable options, rather than free-form AI responses. The bot only does what you design it to do — so a little planning up front makes the build go smoothly. Work through the steps below before you open the Flow Builder.

1. Define your goal

Decide what the bot should accomplish. Common goals include:

  • Collecting leads
  • Answering FAQs
  • Booking appointments
  • Guiding visitors to the right place

Focus on one primary goal to start. You can add more later.

2. Map the conversation

Sketch the flow from start to finish before you build it. A typical path looks like:

  1. A welcome message
  2. A set of multiple-choice options
  3. An answer, plus a follow-up question if needed
  4. Collecting any information you need
  5. A closing thank-you message

3. Keep it short

Visitors lose interest after about 4–5 steps. Make every step earn its place — if a step doesn't move the visitor toward your goal, cut it.

4. Draft your messages

Write each message in advance. Keep them short and friendly — one or two sentences. Make your button labels clear, so each option accurately describes where it leads.

Components you can use

The Flow Builder gives you these building blocks:

  • Message blocks
  • Questions
  • Email collection
  • Multiple-choice buttons and options
  • Media (images and videos)
  • Loops
  • URL redirects

Pre-build checklist

Before you start building, confirm you have:

  • A single, clear goal
  • A flow mapped to 4–5 steps maximum
  • All your messages written
  • Button labels decided
  • A list of the data you want to collect
