The Five-Day Hard Thing - Launchpad

Your six downloads, where to find them, and how to start your five days

What The Five-Day Hard Thing is

The Five-Day Hard Thing is a download kit for choosing one hard thing you have been putting off, sizing it so you can finish it, and getting through the five days it takes. It comes as a playbook, a workbook, a 30-day journal, a short video series and two bonus worksheets.

What is in your kit

Your purchase includes six downloads:

  • The Five-Day Hard Thing playbook (17 pages, PDF). Three chapters: why a hard thing and why five days, how to choose and size it, and the five days themselves. The five-day map names what each day usually feels like: Commit and Start, The Drop, The Wall, The Shift, Finish and Collect.
  • The workbook (15 pages, PDF). Six exercises that run in order, from listing the promises you have broken to planning your five days with a line ready for day three.
  • The 30-day journal (36 pages, PDF). Thirty dated prompts for the month after your five days.
  • The video series (ZIP). Three narrated videos, the same three parts as audio files, transcripts, and the slides in a dark and a light version.
  • Bonus: Sounds Reasonable (5 pages, PDF). Nine lines people tell themselves to skip the hard thing, each with one move to use instead.
  • Bonus: The 24-Hour Promise (6 pages, PDF). A one-day worksheet for keeping one small promise first.

Where to find your downloads

After checkout you land on your purchase page. All six files are listed there, each with its own download link. Save or bookmark that page so you can come back for the files later.

Each PDF carries your purchase details at the bottom of the page.

How to start

  1. Watch part 1 of the video series or read chapter 1 of the playbook, so you know what the five days ask of you.
  2. Do workbook exercises 1 to 4. They take you from your track record to three candidates, then size each one against your worst day.
  3. Write your commitment sentence in exercise 5 and check it against the four traps listed there.
  4. Plan the five days in exercise 6, including the line you will read on day three.
  5. Start day one. Keep the five-day map from the playbook where you can see it.

If five days feels like too much right now, start with The 24-Hour Promise worksheet and keep one small promise first.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my downloads?

On your purchase page, the page you reach right after checkout. All six files are listed there with a download link for each.

What format are the files in?

Five of the files are PDFs, which open in any browser or PDF reader. The video series is a ZIP file: save it to a computer and open it to get the videos, audio files, transcripts and slides.

Can I watch the videos on my phone?

Yes, once the ZIP is opened. The videos are MP4 files and the audio files are MP3, which play on most phones and tablets. Opening a ZIP is easiest on a computer.

What should I pick as my hard thing?

Chapter 2 of the playbook and workbook exercises 3 and 4 cover this. The aim is something you can finish in five days even on your worst day.
