Engine
Engine is one of six pods in the Framework pillar. Each course in this pod builds on the one before it.
Your platform has structure, your tools are connected, and your site is taking shape. Engine is where you ensure the technical systems underneath are reliable, fast, and secure. This is the group most non-technical founders skip -- and then pay for later when their site loads slowly, their data disappears, or a security issue takes them offline.
You do not need to become a developer. You need to understand enough about the engine running your business to make good decisions, hire the right help when needed, and avoid the preventable disasters that take businesses offline for days. These six courses give you that operational literacy without drowning you in technical detail.
What You'll Learn
- Databases -- Understand how your data is stored, structured, and accessed without needing to write code. You will learn enough about databases to manage your content efficiently, export your data when you need it, and avoid the common mistakes that create cleanup nightmares months later.
- APIs -- Learn what APIs are, why they matter for your business, and how to use them to connect systems that do not talk to each other natively. You will make your first API calls, understand authentication basics, and see how data moves between platforms through these interfaces.
- Server Management -- Know what your hosting environment needs to stay healthy and available. Uptime monitoring, resource allocation, error logs, and upgrade triggers all get covered. You will build a maintenance checklist that prevents emergencies before they happen.
- Performance Optimization -- Make your site fast on every device and every connection. Image optimization, caching, code efficiency, and content delivery networks all get addressed. You will measure your actual site speed, identify the specific bottlenecks, and fix them.
- Security -- Protect your business, your data, and your customers from the threats that hit small businesses every day. Password policies, two-factor authentication, software updates, backup verification, and incident response planning. These basics prevent 95% of security problems.
- Backup Systems -- Set up automated backups and confirm they actually work by testing a restore. You will configure backup schedules, verify backup integrity, test the full restoration procedure, and document the recovery plan that lets you bounce back from any failure.
By the End of This Pod
- • A performance-optimized site that scores well on speed tests and loads fast on every device
- • Automated backups running on a verified schedule with a tested and documented restoration procedure
- • A security baseline in place: strong authentication, current software, active monitoring, and an incident response plan
- • Enough technical literacy to evaluate vendor recommendations, hire the right help, and prevent the disasters that take unprepared businesses offline
